Behavioral Health Access

Expanding access to mental health and substance abuse services

Improving access to behavioral health services is an essential part of improving overall health outcomes. Overall health is not just heart health, or brain health, or addressing any other physical symptom or diagnosis. It also must include improving behavioral health — which includes treatment for either mental illness or substance abuse or both.

LEARN MORE ABOUT CLIENT SERVICES

At AccessHealth, we treat mental health concerns the same as any other health concerns. Mental health concerns and/or substance abuse often are inextricably linked to physical ailments.

Nationwide, public funding for mental health treatment does not come close to meeting the need. The situation in South Carolina is no different, and the uninsured are most impacted, making the work of AccessHealth to connect low-income, uninsured people to treatment essential.

AccessHealth screens every person enrolled for behavioral health needs. We connect clients to the following organizations and services for mental and behavioral health issues: Spartanburg Area Mental Health, The Forrester Center for Behavioral Health, and Emerge Family Therapy. There are also a number of private counselors who see our clients in their own offices.

AccessHealth opened its doors in 2010. Since then*:

  • Over 1,500 clients connected to counseling and support groups
  • Over 800 clients connected to mental health treatment
  • Over 250 clients connected to drug/alcohol treatment

*-As of December 2023.
